about the stu
the concept for the stu came about in 2018.
i was working as a freelance videographer and wanted to get into professional photography. so i found the cheapest studio in the area where i could practice taking shots. and then i asked my two best friends if they would split the studio cost with me and model for the photos. being the camera whore libras they are, they agreed to “link up at the stu.” we blasted music. we danced around. we played around with flash and backdrops and props and outfits. it was a vibe. and since then, everytime i wanted to take practice shots or shoot something specifically creative, we would pitch in and link at the stu. before i knew it, i had a portfolio of dope shots to build my new photography business. and i had my friends to thank.
eventually in 2019, i launched my content production business...
dom productions provides professional photography and video production for businesses, brands and entrepreneurs. and after shooting for clients in hundreds of places across the greater toronto area, i still craved a space i could call my own. i wanted a space that i could curate, where i could bring community together, and create a home for dom productions. as a black woman in marketing and media production, it’s rare that i get to connect with other women and people-of-colour in the industry. so in 2024, dom productions inc. acquired amica studio and officially rebranded to the stu.
